Caring for Baby
Holding a newborn in one’s arms would feel so wonderful. Knowing that the cute little is totally dependent on you could be scary. Understanding the special needs and physical changes would ease out the carrying out of activities and will help you in your role as a care giver.
In the first week of life, infants may exhibit hair loss. Some of the hair will be shed off but are then replaced with new strands that will eventually become permanent. Bathe baby with lukewarm water and mild and gentle baby shampoo could be used. Use a clinically proven mild baby product to thoroughly cleanse your baby. Avoid products containing soap and alcohol. Newborns seldom blink and their tear secretion level is quite low making the eyes vulnerable to irritants.
Pick a gentle cleansing agent suitable for babies. Many are available in the market with such sweet smelling scent that is just right and not overpowering. This could come with a whole set of other baby products used for taking care of baby’s hygiene. During diaper changing, be sure to wash the diaper area with a washcloth and towel it dry to avoid microbial growth that could be detrimental to the baby’s health. Constant close contact with urine and feces in this area promotes skin irritation. When red rashes are noticed in the area treat it with a rash ointment and leave baby without diaper for some time. Proper ventilation would help to dry and cure the rash.
Use an absorbent baby powder. A baby powder could also help in regulating baby’s temperature. Since they are pretty young, the thermoregulation center is still adapting to the environment outside mommy’s womb. It is pretty immature so be sure to bundle baby in warm and comfortable clothing. Soft, loose fitting garments are much preferred over tight coarse fabrics. Pretty clothes could be readily purchased in the market. You could avail those with cartoon character prints. Various designs are offered to suit the weather changes. Give adequate fluids to maintain hydration and of course be sure to feed baby with nutritious foods formulated according to need.
